Dear friends,

After long thought and after monitoring the evolution of the situation of the coronavirus pandemic, Kimonos Art Center announces the postponement of this year’s edition of the international animation festival The Animattikon Project.

The international uncertainty concerning the pandemic, as well as the danger of a new outbreak of the virus, do not allow us to organize the festival in the high standards of quality we have established. We also consider that an event such as our festival, based on gathering people, could become hazardous for the public health.

The central goal of the Animattikon Project is the creation of a communication platform between the international animation scene and the local audiovisual production sector, towards a collaboration which will actively include the audience of Paphos - and Cyprus in general. The Animattikon Project is developed as a celebration and a celebration means getting together.

However, under the present conditions, we are not in a position to organize visits from established guests of the international animation scene, nor to coordinate our various activities (workshops for children and adults, conferences, presentations etc.) in the spaces of our Center and the spaces of the institutions with which we collaborate (Paphos Municipality, Almyra Hotel, University of Neapolis, cultural space Technopolis20, Ananas8bit Coffee, CRAFT bar and others).

Even the alternative solution, which would be to organize a smaller scale festival, would be unfair, as we believe, towards the selected films and their directors. It would also fail to offer sufficient opportunities of involvement to our audience. Furthermore, given the way the pandemic situation evolves, the risk of having to cancel even this smaller scale version of the festival later on would be high.

For all these reasons, we have chosen to postpone this edition of the festival for October 2021. We are hoping that at that moment we will be able to offer to our audience an event at the height of the expectations we have cultivated over the years and to provide to the participant directors a promotional platform equal to the value of their films.

All of the members of the team of the Animattikon Project wishes to regret this decision: we hope that by the middle of the autumn - when, under normal conditions our festival would have taken place - all necessary developments in the research for a vaccin and / or a cure for the coronavirus will have taken place, making this postponement look like we have just been overly and unnecessarily cautious.
