Nicos Synnos, animation director, assistant professor at the School of Fine and Applied Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology and head of the Lab for Animation Studies, presents the research conducted in the lab.

Dr. Eleni Mouri presents a series of films produced by the students of the Department of Graphic Arts and Visual Communication of the University of West Attica. The films are the practical part of diploma researches conducted by students. Dr. Eleni Mouri, professor in the Department will introduce them and provide context and detail around every project.

Since its foundation in 2017, the Animattikon project has been collaborating with the animation department of the film school Filmakademie of Baden-Wurttemberg. Many films created by the students of the school have been presented in the previous editions of the festival and some of them were awarded the Golden Hat awards and mentions by our juries.

This year we are extremely happy to welcome Christa Pfafferott, professor at the Filmakademie, who will present the school to the audience.

The event is supported by the German Embassy in Cyprus and is a part of a wider collaboration between the festival and the Embassy in the framework of the Weeks of the German Language.

Lefteris S. Eleftheriou is a certified film commissioner and will present the incentives for audiovisual production provided by the Rwpublic of Cyprus, which include the production of animated films. He will speak about Cyprus as an audiovisual destination and the whole effort to upgrade the conditions and funding opportunities for audiovisual production in Cyprus.

During the ceremony, the jury members will announce the winners in all competing categories of the festival.
The ceremony will then move to Madame bar for a party!

09:30 / Animation Workshop for Children

The Animattikon Project invites you to a two-day animation workshop for children aged 6 to 15 years old.

Animation becomes a tool for expression, so that participants may create their own characters with materials such as plasteline, wool, cotton, carton and to create a scenario with their creations.

The young participants are called to create a story exploring the concepts of diversity, collectivity and harmonious coexistence of their characters in an imaginary environment. Finally, the kids will have the opportunity to transfer their own symbolic message of peace to the audience, through the visualisation of their story in the form of a film.

The workshop is coordinated by Marios Matheou and Panagiota Michael.

 

Participation to the workshop is free of charge.

Registration is obligatory in order to participate.

As part of the annual worldwide celebrations for the International Animation Day, the
Cyprus chapter of ASIFA (the International Animated Film Association), is organizing a
free film screening event in locations across Cyprus.


The selection of films has been curated by Panagiotis Kyriakoulakos, Zeynep Akcay and Michalis
Kalopaidis and has a special focus on the East Mediterranean region.

The Animattikon Project celebrates the 100 years of the release of the silent masterpiece by F.W. Murnau in 1922, by presenting a screening of the film, accompanied by a musical performance by George Bizios (electric guitar),
Ronja Burve (vocals) and Omiros Miltiadous (drums).

During this cine-concert, the trio will present an original score for voice, guitar and drums, composed by George Bizios especially for this event. The music is influenced from contemporary and avant garde jazz. and the score combines composed elements with parts of free improvisation, allowing the musicians to interact with the image and the film narrative in real time during the screening.​
